Why is it that people often describe a wedding as a “fairy tale”? It’s about the dreams! Remember when you would lie in bed and dream about your wedding? Maybe those “dream wedding” dreams never went away? But they feel like they might slip away. Sometimes, it seems like the dream of this amazingly unique wedding can be just that- a dream. But why should that be? Today, I am giving you permission to dream again. I am giving you permission to think outside of the box. This is your giant permission slip to not do what everyone else does- and do what you want to do- even if it’s against the norm. Start dreaming, again. And the best place to start is the place where all the magic happens- the wedding ceremony. Personalize those and your wedding day dreams will come true. Start dreaming of these 5 key moments of your big day:

1. A Dream Wedding Location That Fits Your Fairy Tale

Where do you feel your best? Is it inside of a gorgeous industrial venue full of aesthetics or outside in nature surrounded by trees and fresh air? Do you feel lively with your feet in the grass in a botanical garden you feel cozy and comfy in an intimate, rustic, cabin? Maybe you feel your best in a barn with your deep hometown roots.

Whatever your taste, remember that the venue is not just about what is most convenient or budget friendly (although those are strong considerations), but it’s also about providing an atmosphere of how you want to feel on your wedding day. If you want everyone to feel free and peaceful, then maybe an outdoor wedding is the right idea for you. If you want to walk down the aisle feeling more connected and intimate than ever before, then a cozy cabin venue or tiny church may be just right. There is no right or wrong answer, unless you are getting married at a location you really don’t feel anything about.

Then it’s time to start dreaming again.

2. A Special Officiant

Thanks to Google, anyone can be  an officiant in today’s weddings.

What is more special than having someone who means something to you bond you in marriage? It could be your pastor who worked through marriage counseling with you, but it also could be your mom, dad, grandparent, best friend, etc.

No matter who you pick, just make sure you love them. And that they love you. And don’t be afraid to ask that person who came to mind as soon as you read this!

Here are a few things for your officiant to consider.

3. Dream Up A Special Unity Moment

I have seen some really precious moments throughout the ceremony where the couple wants to signify their unity. Whether that’s a tree planting, a foot washing, a branding, or a sand ceremony, dream of  a special moment to make your unity personal during your ceremony.

Don’t feel like you have to do a sand ceremony just because it’s on sale somewhere or you saw someone else do it. Unless you want to do a sand ceremony, then go for it! The awesome thing about unity expressions is that it provides a keepsake to put in your home that reminds you of your promise to one another. And- it expresses you!

4. Dream Wedding Music To Your Ears

Music sets a tone, stirs up emotions, and shares a special message with your guests, so dream about the right songs for your special day. Make sure they’re a good fit for the ceremony and will unify your guests.

Start with what type of music gives you the feels? What music makes you want to lie in a chair and listen to it all day long?

Are there certain songs that mean everything to your relationship? Words that you really want people to hear? Incorporate them into your wedding! Wrap your guests and your love in the unexplainable power of music as you walk down the aisle by playing your favorite song.

Then every time you hear that song, you are transported back to that moment.

5. Your Fairy-tale Florals For Your Dream Wedding

Dream of ways to personalize your day with the greenery and florals you select.

How can flowers be personalized? Surprisingly, a lot of ways! Start with your favorite. What is your favorite flower? Can we work that into your bouquet or use them to guide the path to the altar?

Don’t know which flowers are your favorite? Maybe you start with which ones you don’t like? And narrow the list. Think about your favorite colors, seasons, textures. You can say a lot about who you two are with your florals.

What about your mom’s favorite flower? Or Grandma’s? Would you want to wear a floral crown? Or have your florist insert them into your hair? (It is stunning!)

Using this chart from the almanac you can pick a rose by what it represents.  A red rose means love, and a yellow rose means jealousy! Hmmm. Which would you rather have on your wedding day? Find a flower that represents your relationship and include it into your day. And if you love yellow roses, go for it! The rose can stand for the great love you two will share–so great it will make all other couples jealous!

Florals help reflect the tone of your day. The more florals, the more lively the ceremony and rest of the day feels. Bring a botanical aesthetic to your venue, making it more personal.

So fluff up your pillow and keep dreaming! These are 5 ways I love to see my clients dream about making their wedding day personal. I love getting to photograph so many memories all in different types of locations-all showcasing their different personalities and uniqueness. No wedding day is the same, and no dream should be either. I hope this sparks a late night of Pinterest-ing your dream day!
