5 Things To Get You Hyped For Your Senior Photo Session

So…is it senior photo season yet? Yes! So that must mean your walk across the stage is coming soon! I’ve got five things to get you hyped for your senior photo session! I can’t hide my excitement. Taking these awesome senior’s photos is one of the coolest parts of my job. I get to meet awesome young people and get to help them express who they are. Not everyone gets to do that at work, right?

But let’s face it, some think senior photos can be kinda scary. You’re trying to capture that perfect photo for your last year of high school…that’s a lot of pressure! Plus, you’ve got a million things on your mind, from summer projects to jobs and colleges. Trust me, your senior photos don’t need to add any stress! I want you to get hyped for your senior photo instead!

1. Your playlist will rock.

So…you probably listen to music on the way to school, while you’re working out, while you’re studying, at work, or even when you’re showering…so why should your senior photos be any different? I’m all about cranking up the tunes during photo sessions to help get you in that confident headspace.

I think we all have that song that makes us feel like we own the room. Think of how you feel when your favorite Florida Georgia Line song is blasting in the car. That’s the exact kind of moment we want to capture, you at your best and most confident self! Whether you want to blast Michael Buble or LeCrae, I won’t judge. I’m here to help you feel yourself, and music helps! I also love all kinds of music, and hearing your playlist helps me understand who you are.

Take some time to compile a photoshoot playlist. It helps to consider the mood you want to capture in your shots. Are you looking for something more moody? Goofy? Glamorous? Every type of feel? Pop your playlist up on a speaker and you can capture the perfect vibe. Get lost in the music, unwind, and enjoy yourself.

2. The flaws disappear.

If only we could control breakouts…or flyaways…or those random bruises you get in that last gym class for working hard. The fact is, we’re only human, and even the most dedicated 12-step skincare routine won’t guarantee flawless skin the day you take your senior photos. But you’d be surprised at how flattering professional photos can be. Think of it as your iPhone’s portrait mode on steroids. Plus, it’s your photographer’s job to know how to angle and edit to minimize flaws and find the most flattering shots. You’re in good hands!

So don’t worry if you have a few “beauty pop-ups (AKA zits), because when you get your photos back you will never know you had acne. What will shine through is your personality, and by the time those pictures make it to the yearbook, you’ll have forgotten whatever little flaw you were thinking about.

3. There are no “bad” pictures.

Okay, let me guess your worst nightmare…you download the final photos from your photographer and they’re ALL. UGLY. Like, completely unusable and unflattering. Like you’d be better off submitting blurry Snapchats from your camera roll.

So let’s get something straight: this will not happen.

I will not hand you senior photos that I don’t think you look awesome in. Plus, you can trust me to fix anything’s going wrong on the day of the shoot. If your hair is in your face, or if you’ve got something in your teeth, I WILL say something — we will create the best photos together! I will make sure you’re looking great and feeling great, from beginning to end. I only choose the photos you will love! This way, when it comes time to choose that one picture to send to Grandma or blow up for your senior soccer game, you have plenty of great choices.

4. You can’t go wrong with your outfit.

I know, you’re probably already hosting a fashion show in your mind, trying to come up with an outfit that somehow encapsulates your personality, flatters your body, and won’t look dorky in twenty years. Pause for a minute and go Google JLo’s outfits and hairstyles. Even when she’s rocking matching tracksuits and bedazzled shrugs, she kills it. Why? Because she’s confident! And, frankly, she has some giggle-worthy looks from the ‘90s because trends change.

Trends will always come and go, and you won’t be the only one in the yearbook wearing an outfit that will seem “so twenties” to your kids. But you’ll look great, and that’s what counts!

So instead of stressing over what’s going to still be cool in the 2040s, pick that outfit that always makes you feel cute when you put it on. And don’t forget comfort! You’ll be a lot happier when you don’t have to pull down your hem or slide up your sleeves every four seconds.

5. You will have fun.

Relax! You’re ready to take your senior photos, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime moment! At the same time, remember that you have plenty of time to try out all the angles you want. You get to pick the best locations where you’ve always felt good…or maybe even take some at your favorite restaurant! You’re gonna look back on this picture when you’re older, so settle into how you’re feeling and what this moment is like!

My main goal is to make you feel like your true self in front of the camera, and have the BEST TIME. Remind yourself to enjoy these moments, and know that it’s gonna be a blast regardless. It’s a ton of fun for me, behind the camera, getting to find those perfect moments to capture! So remember these five things and get hyped for your senior photo session — it’ll be here before you know it!
