Cookie cutter wedding planning is a thing. In fact, it has become more of a thing than I would like to admit. Maybe the amount of details is too overwhelming or you’ve got too many other demands in your life to quiet the noise and personalize your wedding day the way you want. And maybe some brides think it has to be a certain way.
But what if it doesn’t? What if you want to make your wedding day unique and special, but do not even know where to begin.
Right now: Stop and ask yourself, “How do I make a day that is about us, truly about us?”
Don’t let the load of questions bog you down. Avoid the pull and temptation to just do what your friends did. Most times that doesn’t even reflect who you or your groom are.
It doesn’t have to be that way. I have some exciting news. I am going to show you ways to personalize your wedding day AND enjoy it! Let’s stop the planning just to plan, and start making this fun!
This is your permission slip to grab some tea or a flop in a comfy chair and think about 5 ways to personalize your wedding day- before you even put on your dress!
I am so excited for you and WITH YOU. Nothing about your day has to be mundane! With a few plans it can be the best and exciting. Check out these 5 getting ready tips to personalize your day.
1. Start by doing something fun for breakfast.
Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day- especially on your wedding day! Brides don’t typically realize that oftentimes the adrenaline keeps you from eating very much at other meals throughout the day, so a healthy breakfast is a MUST.
Start your day off right by enjoying your favorite food with the people you love. That could range from going on a Krispy Kreme donut run with your wedding party, watching your groomsmen have a pancake eating challenge, or going on a breakfast date with just you and your fiance. Taking time to eat is important, so why not make it special and personalized just for you?!
2. Get ready at a place that matters.
I am giving you permission to not get ready at the hotel room next door to your venue. Although it may be convenient, it may not be exciting to you. My best advice is get ready at a place that sparks joy.
Whether it’s a meaningful location like your parents’ house or the lodge you hosted your bachelor/bachelorette parties in, or a styled AirBnB that rings of your esthetic…choose a site that is exciting. It’s even better when you have space to spread out and room to do something fun. There are SO many neat places to stay or get ready close to your venue. Probably even more than you realize.
If your family’s home is out of the question, start by Google-searching your style, city, and places to stay. I promise you will be amazed at what comes up. Even by typing “cool vrbos to stay in Omaha”, I found a boho bungalow and an epic lake house with a hot tub! So much potential to have a serious blast while you get ready.
3. Give a fun gift to your crew.
Everyone loves a thoughtful gift, and your bridal party is no exception! Give a gift that you can use the morning of your wedding. Whether that’s adorable p.j.s for your bridesmaids or the softest bathrobes for your dudes, let them enjoy wearing something special on your wedding day. Make it even more personal by putting their names on it or giving a total “inside joke” gift. Why not start the day with a cozy robe or a good laugh.
Don’t think of it as one more expense. This will really mean something. I think it’s important to give a special gift. Your bridal party has excitedly given up time and money to celebrate you and be present for your day- give them something that shows how much you appreciate them.
4. Plan time to do something fun before you get dressed.
Before you put your dress or suit on, soak up the last minutes of not having to be mindful of getting dirty.
Take some time to snuggle with your favorite pet before you get dressed helps you not to worry about pet hair, dirty paws, or a little piddle. Or maybe you want to pop some champagne with your crew? You don’t have to worry about splattering it on your suit if you are in your robe. Maybe you can even take one last dip in the hot tub to relax or play a quick round of mini golf. Plan something fun before the FUN!
5. Take some time to thank the people you love.
It may be a quick toast, or a handful of letters, but starting the day off letting people know how much you value them sets the tone of your day. I promise. Think of how personal it will be to add every inch of love and joy as possible to your wedding day.
Don’t view this list as another “to do” list. This one is a happy plan. A way to double, triple, quadruple ensure that you have your best day ever!
I hope you find ways to enjoy these really easy ways to personalize your wedding day- even if that means putting ketchup on your eggs. I want this day to be beyond the best for you.
