To all the photos I’ve loved before…I’m no Lara Jean, but I really could write a letter about every fantastic senior photo shoot I’ve done! A letter about gorgeous locations, a letter about goofy props, a letter about fun outfit changes! It may sound nerdy, but that’s how excited I am about getting to create the perfect photo experience for my seniors! And why I’ve compiled these 3 myths to ignore about senior photo sessions.
One of the things I love about my job is getting to take those senior photos and meet so many terrific young people. I have an Instagram highlight of some of the awesome senior photo sessions I’ve done. We really do have fun! Yet for some reason, people sometimes expect senior photos to be scary or awkward. I promise you, you’ve got nothing to worry about!
But I get it…between TV and parents and older siblings, everyone’s got an opinion on photo sessions. It’s easy to get caught up in all the talk and start believing some of those myths. But I’m here to set the record straight…and tell you three myths about senior photos you can totally ignore!
1. You have to buy a new outfit
When everyone’s chatting about their senior photos, it’s easy to feel like you need to run out and get new clothes for your photo session. Total myths! Relax! Chances are, you already have a favorite outfit ready to go in your closet. Think about the outfit that you always seem to grab because you feel awesome in it. There you go, you’re ready!
If you want to mix it up with some fun poses, comfort is key — and you probably already have some comfortable picks in your dresser. Rylee and Treven did a great job of picking outfits they could really MOVE in for their senior photos!
Along those same myth-y lines is the thought that you need to bring a fancy outfit for your senior photos. Nope! This day is all about you and expressing yourself. If getting all dressed up isn’t you, don’t do it! You can leave your holiday clothes at home and wear whatever feels comfortable to you. Of course, if you want to go full-on stylin, I’m ALL on board. But don’t think it’s a requirement — these photos are about you, so wear something that you love when you want to express yourself.
So grab your favorites — this is your day!
2. You might pick a bad day
There are no bad days for photographs — really! People sometimes worry about lighting and weather for their senior photos. Truth is, no one can control the weather. Especially here in the Midwest — we can’t even predict the weather!
Luckily, I’ve had lots of practice doing photo sessions in just about every kind of weather, and I promise you that we can find a way to make it work. Whether that means bringing in some lights of our own or moving to an indoor location, I’ve got your back! And if things really are too crazy to shoot in your favorite location, we can find another day that works, too.
Okay, so maybe we’ve solved the weather, but what if you have a major breakout or bad hair day? I think you know the answer…not the end of the world! We’ll be having so much fun that you will forget any little imperfections. I bet every person I’ve photographed has been self-conscious about how they look at some point in their life…but check out my gallery. It’s full of beautiful, perfect souls! We’ll make your personality shine, and I’ve got the editing magic to make that happen!
3. Your senior photo session will feel awkward
Nope, not with me! When it comes to photo sessions, I’m all about having fun. We’ll be spending so much time chatting and running around that there just isn’t time to feel awkward!
I know it can be hard to be yourself when there’s a camera in front of you. That’s why I work hard to build a bond with my clients, so that they feel free to express their true self in their photos. I won’t judge — I’m here to capture all sides of you! Getting to know your photographer (that’s me!) can really help ease the awkward.
Plus, I’ve done this before! I’m used to photographing seniors just like you, and I love getting to hear about seniors’ passions and plans and ideas! I love getting to be creative and think up cool shots together. So know that I’m working hard to make this a fun experience for you — never awkward!
So to all the photos I’ve loved before…thanks for helping me show truth from myth. Thanks for helping me capture fun, fearless seniors being their best selves! I love my job, and I know we’re going to have the best time shooting your senior photos! So throw those senior photo myths out the window and take a break from nervously scrolling VSCO. You’re in good hands!
