The big day. YOUR big day. Just think — all the plans and preparation, the decisions and the details, come together for one of the BEST days of your life! (They will, I promise!) You know all that goes into making this day special. But knowing how much is happening makes some brides a little stressed that all those details will make them crazy on their one special day. I get that, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Your big day should be a happy, stress-free day that you LOVE! Not a blur of questions, details, and madness. You should enjoy every minute of your wedding day.
But how? How do you make plans to really enjoy every minute? And still make sure it all works out just right. I have three suggestions:
1.Rely on the experts.
On your special day – and especially leading up to that day – make sure to rely on your experts. You hired a photographer (and maybe a wedding planner too) to help you, so lean on them. They are there for you.
I know I’ve photographed nearly 100 weddings so I rely on that experience to help the bride and the wedding party. I anticipate and explain and plan ahead for virtually every scenario. I have seen so many things because each day is unique and has its own special moments. Even if things don’t go as planned, every wedding is full of beautiful stories, and I’m ready for them all.
The bride, her mother, the groom, or really anyone in the wedding shouldn’t have to be thinking about details. You aren’t the wedding expert. You don’t need to be. This is your big day to enjoy! Rely on your photographer’s experience for everything to run smoothly.
In advance I discuss a tailored schedule with every bride. We go over it more than once leading up to the big day. I want her and her groom to know what to anticipate and I also want them to add anything they want to cover. I love suggesting special moments for you two to enjoy and then on the day of watching you two enjoy it all.
On your big day, rely on the professionals to make it all run smoothly while you enjoy yourself. We are here for you!
2. Enjoy some extra special moments.
As much as I like to determine an efficient schedule, I always leave room for flexibility. I get some amazing shoots when we leave some gaps in the day to capture some extra special moments. Silly times, emotional moments, groomsmen being goofs. I think it’s important to plan for unplanned times ☺ to really enjoy every minute.
I’ve gone with a bride and groom for ice cream between scheduled events for the day. The photos were precious and they made a memory that they will treasure forever. (And not one drip or drop got on her spectacular dress.)
This day won’t come again. Leave enough room in your schedule to breathe and create some amazing, unique moments.
3. Stay in the moment.
One way to make sure you enjoy every minute is to stay present in that moment. Don’t let your brain hop to the next thing. Stay in the moment.
Your wedding day is certainly a busy day, but don’t let the “to do” list keep you from enjoying the minute happening right then. Let your photographer, planner, and personal attendant keep track of what’s next and what still needs to be done. If you are worrying about the next thing on the list you are not 100% present in that moment—a moment that will never come again.
Don’t miss out on experiencing and enjoying every minute of your big day. Let your experts do the work. An experienced photographer loves the hustle and bustle of the day. Relax and let them think about the next moment while you fully enjoy the one you’re in.
Take in the moment.
Your wedding day is going to be amazing. Your wedding day marks a brand-new chapter of the story you are writing together. This day is a special time with your lifelong best friend and a few others making a commitment before God to honor and support each other no matter what. Make plans to take every opportunity you can to soak up every minute of this happy day.
