Wedding Headpiece: Yes or No? Three Fun Options

A bride wants to feel good from head to toe on her wedding day. Dress shopping is usually where it all begins.  Some brides try on just one dress, while others will go through nearly 100 to find the one. Yay! As you shop, the top of your head may not be on the top of your list, but it’s worth some thought. Here are three types of wedding headpieces to wear on your big day.

Finding the perfect dress is a wonderful way to feel special on your wedding day. And another way to show your uniqueness and the real you is to find the perfect headpiece to wear. Headpieces can add elegance, casualness, meaning, color, and fun all while flattering you on your wedding day. You can choose to wear them for part of the day or the whole time. Maybe just for the reception or maybe from beginning to end. Either way, I encourage my brides to feel like their genuine, beautiful self on their day, and a headpiece is the perfect way to do that.

Wedding Headpiece: Headbands and Floral Crowns

Headbands and floral crowns add some extra glam or color around your face. That pop of interest is especially welcome for brides that don’t love wearing white. Crowns, beads, or just a little clip can go a long way in enhancing your gorgeous hair style or color or set the tone of the style for your day. I have seen all kinds. I wore a sparkly headband on my wedding day that I loved. The sparkles seemed to brighten my face and enhance my hair style. I also felt my hair was more secure during the day.

Headbands have come a long way since my wedding. Now you can choose from stunning crowns, draping beads that drop all the way down your back, or delicate flowers made from jewels. I love how a wedding headpiece  makes each bride feel unique and different. Adding flowers to your hair can also be a beautiful way to add some color and spunk to your day. They can match your bouquet, or even just add a fresh, wildness to your day. They can be elegant, bohemian, earthy, or wild. Whatever suits you.

Veil Variety

Veils are the most common addition to your wedding day gown. They have been the most popular add on since the day brides decided to wear white. Martha Stuart weddings share that veils signify something special to different religions, but it was believed to trace back to Roman times when brides would cover their face to disguise themselves from evil spirits.

Nowadays people continue to see it as a beautiful bridal accessory. One that adds drama, elegance, fun, or extra flattering. A veil with large designs flatters your arms and shoulders. A long, long, cathedral veil adds drama for stunning photos. Its regal length signals what a royally special day this is. A blusher veil hides your face as you walk down the aisle adding drama and thrilling anticipation . And brides say the moment when their dad lifts the veil for her is a special moment they treasure forever.

A veil adds to your day, the look, and the mood. I love to see a sleek satin dress paired with a veil with large pieces of fabric that resemble polka dots or flowers or butterflies. I think it adds so much fun, springiness, and character. It gives you an opportunity to have two different dynamics when photographed (with and without!) during your day. Or go traditional. The addition of a veil says enough on its own. Your dress consultant will help you find the perfect veil when you find the dress of your dreams, on Etsy, or maybe a friend or family member can make it.

Wedding Hats

If you are a hat girl, own it! Your wedding day is a perfect time to wear a hat. It can be for a few photos, the reception, or the whole day. There are stunning hats that can enhance any style that you love! From a western rancher hat, to a bohemian earthy hat, to an elegant large sunhat, there are styles for every type of bride. Enjoy the style that fits you. Not only does it add dynamic to your day, it also keeps the sun out of your face and gives you a little more flexibility with your hairstyle.

No Wedding Headpiece

It’s also perfectly ok to not wear a wedding headpiece. Whatever makes you feel like you! But before you decide against it, consider this: this will be the only day in your life you will get to wear one of these fun and special pieces so be sure to feel really confident in deciding against it. You can always decide not to wear it on the day. Or you can wear it all day. But if you didn’t pick a wedding headpiece you can’t add it day of. It’s doubtful someone has one stashed in their purse for you to borrow. Ha!

No matter what wedding headpiece or lack of wedding headpiece you choose, you will be beautiful, special, and should be comfortable! Wear what makes you feel like you. And don’t be afraid to try something new–even if it is just for a few photos!

Enjoy your wedding dress shopping, and keep your eyes open for even more opportunities to feel even more like yourself on your big day!
